Players that could prove to be bargains
Published by Arjun Naik on August 26, 2009
When anyone starts a fantasy premier league team most people will go for established premier league stars such as Lampard, Gerrard etc. However with this calibre of player high prices are inevitable (12.5 for these two examples).
So what about the other end of the spectrum? Here are some possible bargains to be had.
1. Jozy Altidore – the Hull City striker signed from Villarreal on loan. Although he wasn’t a success at Villarreal he has all the attributes to be a success in the EPL. He is big and strong and i would imagine that he would get his fair share of assists as well as goals and at 5.0 he would represent a good gamble.
2. Kamel Ghilas - Altidore’s strike partner at Hull City. He does have La Liga pedigree and was Celta Vigo’s top scorer last season. The Algerian forward?has looked bright so far for Hull, at 5.0 he is cheap and you would think he and Altidore would forge a good partnership.
3. Stephen Warnock - presently at Blackburn but at the time of writing he is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa. At 4.9 he is a good full back who got 3 goals and 3 assists last season, he has the potential to exceed that this season, given he would be first choice for Villa.
4. Eduardo Da Silva – Arsenal’s croatian striker has proven before on the club and international scene as a striker who gets goals. It has been argued that had the events of St Andrews two seasons ago not happened that Arsenal would have won the title. At 8.0 he is one of the cheapest top four strikers who combined with Adebayors departure to city would get regular first team football. Although it is argued Van Persie is Arsenals first choice striker he has never competed in more than 70% Arsenals EPL games. At 8.0 he could prove to be a masterstroke.
5. Emiliano Insua - the Argentinean full back for Liverpool has had a good start to the season, making the most of Fabio Aurelios absence through injury he firmly established himself as Liverpools first choice left back. At a value of 6.0 he would represent a bargain as you would imagine that Liverpool should be keeping more clean sheets in the future and he has attacking instinct which should get him his fair share of assists.
