Champions League Update for Fantasy Premiership Players – Part Two

Arsenal started their first Champions league knockout match away to Standard Liege in Belgium. They found themselves 2-0 down after 5 minutes, with William Gallas giving away a penalty for their second goal. The London team seemed shell-shocked, and it seemed inevitable, that they would lose their third game in succession, following their defeats to the two Manchester based teams. But it wasn?t to be, and Arsenal dominated play for the majority of the match afterwards. Nicolas Bendtner slotted home the first Arsenal goal, after a defense splitting pass from Diaby at the end of the first half. Priced at 6.3 million pounds he could be a cheap price striker for your team. If he gets a game ? he could significantly bolster your points for the week with a couple of goals or assists.

Thomas Vermaelen?s goal scoring start to Arsenals season continued when he stabbed in the equalizer on 78 minutes. His 6.6 million pounds could be a worthwhile investment, if he continues to score goals from set plays. Then near the end on 81 minutes, Eduardo managed to bundle the ball into the goal with his knees from a corner; which sparked wild celebrations in the Arsenal camp. With 5 easier games in the league coming up next I expect all Arsenal players to be worthwhile over the next 5 game weeks. The teams they play in order are ? Wigan, Fulham, Blackburn, Birmingham and then West Ham.

Liverpool started their Champions league campaign against Hungarian minnows Debrecen at Anfield. Dirk Kuyt scored the only goal in boring encounter. After scoring on the weekend in their rout of Burnley, Kuyt is living up to being a good replacement for Steven Gerard, who seems to be playing deeper in midfield this year. He is considerably cheaper (by 3 million pounds!), and looks set to be playing between Gerard and Torres for the season ? which should allow him to pick up more points.
