The Little Men

When choosing a fantasy team many people will instantly choose the ‘big’ players, such as Gerrard, Lampard, Torres and so on. After choosing these ‘big’ players the rest of the team is chosen by those who are available with the remaining budget almost as an afterthought, but what about the ‘little’ players?

Here are a few recommendations that could bring your team vital points but not hurt your bank balance.

Andy Reid - Sunderlands Irish winger has had a rejuvenation after playing in the carling cup earlier in the season in which he capped his performance with 2 goals. At 5.3 he is cheap and will chip in with the odd goal but crucially he will assist, in the 3 games he has started he has assisted the 3 times. Reid will score more points than some of his more expensive league counterparts.

Tamir Cohen - Gary Megson’s derided Bolton do not play the most expansive football but Tamir Cohen is someone who seems determined to change that. The Bolton attacking midfielder is good on the ball and has an eye for goal scoring 3 goals already this season. At 4.6 he is a bargain and his purchase would facilitate the signature of a ‘big’ name player without compromising quality.

Scott Dann - Birmingham have a reputation as being strong defensively their promotion from the Championship was attributed to them having the meanest defence in the league. This season they have already kept 3 clean sheets and for a newly promoted team that is unheard of. Due to injuries Scott Dann has been given the opportunity to play in the Premier League for the first time. At 3.9 he is the cheapest defender in the league and would be a cheap option but a good player non the less.

Maynor Figueroa - Wigan under Roberto Martinez are a team in transition with a big victory under Chelsea under their belt. Martinez is looking for Wigan to be defensively sound and with Maynor Figueroa their attacking left back you could do worse than snapping up this player for a mere 4.3. He has assisted against Chelsea which shows his attacking instincts and is part of a Wigan defence that is growing in confidence.

Jack Rodwell - Everton have a history of producing young talented players many of whom who fly the nest such as Wayne Rooney. David Moyes will be hoping Jack Rodwell does not do the same, the youngster has firmly established himself as a first team player and at 4.6 he could be a useful player to have.

Jamie O’Hara - The sight of a Portsmouth player in this list may cause alarm but despite the 7 straight defeats Portsmouth have not been as bad as their results suggest. A factor in this has been the performance of O’Hara, the on-loan Spurs midfielder has been putting in some solid performances and has already assisted once in the 3 games that he has played. At 4.5 he is cheap and has the potential of scoring and would be a good purchase if Portsmouth start to have a revival.
