Transfer targets - Gameweek 9

The cornerstones of your team are obvious … but how about the players that’ll put you over the top! Here are 5 options that should get you at least 5 pts this week:

Goalkeeper

With Almunia on the sidelines, Vito Mannone (4.5 mil) has been given a chance to flourish in goal for Arsenal. And with Birmingham, a side that is hardly a powerhouse in attack, Mannone should be good for a third clean sheet in four matches. However, there’s no telling when Alumnia will be back so he may just be a one-week fill-in.

Defender

Although Shawcross made headlines at the beginning of the season, Abdoulaye Faye (4.7 mil) is the better choice of the defenders in terms of price. This weekend sees Stoke City hosting West Ham, and with the exception of Tottenham next week, Stoke’s schedule up to Week 14 (Wolves, Hull City, Portsmouth, Blackburn) should see him performing admirably.

Midfielders

Although this column is mainly looking for players who can found on the cheap side, a special mention this week has to made for Cesc Fabregas (10.8 mil). Fabregas is currently owned by roughly twenty percent of all fantasy league managers. However, this is still too low. With his explosive point-scoring ability and his relatively cheap price, it’s time to drop either Gerrard or Lampard in favour of him.

Portsmouth are too good a side to finish the season at the bottom of the table and with their first win last weekend, look for them to start playing with increased confidence that will lead to more wins. If you want to get in on the ground floor, Kevin-Prince Boateng (5.0 mil) is the player to bring into the side.

Forward

Darren Bent (7.6 mil) has proved a revelation for the Black Cats this season and believe it or not, he currently has the best form of any player in the league, including Fabregas! Even though the Reds are coming to town this week, it’s time to get on the Bent bandwagon and start reaping the points.
