The Spanish Primera Liga has, in recent years, grown in popularity a great deal. Often thought of having as the most technically accomplished football out of all the world’s top leagues, La Liga has also been boosted by seeing some of the world’s top players join its ranks in recent seasons, with players of the ilk of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Zlatan Ibrahimovic joining the league.
Although this is undoubtedly a draw for the Spanish league, to think that these high profile stars are the be all and end all of Spanish football would be to do others a mis-service. There are plenty of young stars in the Spanish league that are more than willing to take up the mantle from these more established players.
One of these young players, who has been making waves recently due to his latest football scores is Real Madrid’s Sergio Canales. The young midfielder joined last year from Racing Santander where he had impressed greatly and despite only being 19, and having superstars such as Kaka, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria in the squad, the Spaniard has already made a couple of impressive starts for the Spanish Giants this season.
Real do not have a monopoly on young Spanish talent though and their great rivals Barcelona also have some bright sparks in their rank. Bojan Krkic is just one of these players. The son of a former Serbia international and Barca scout, Krkic broke into the first team at 17 under Frank Rijkard. Although his progress has slowed under Pep Guardiola, the young Spain international still impresses for the Cules whenever he is called upon which, for a guy who is still in his teens, is pretty regularly.
Finally, a midfielder impressing for Valencia over the last few years is the 22-year-old Argentine Ever Banega. Banega recovered from a hard start to his career in Spain to become Valencia’s big star last year and it is surely only a matter of time before the player, who reminds many of legend Fernando Redondo, breaks into the Argentina first team on a regular basis.
These three players are just a few of the favourites to win Spain’s young player of the year award so watch out for them this year.
