Euro 2008 Gameweek Guide: Semi-Final
June 24, 2008
We are nearly there, just four teams left in the competition now. As the tournament is now coming to an end, I am also moving into the format that will be used in next seasons Premier League Fantasy Football, as that will be around as soon as Euro 2008 is over.
The gameweek guide will give tips to results, stats and some player picks. The dream team now has its own page and can be found here - ‘Fantasy Football Dream Team‘. You can discuss the dream team in the gameweek guide comments section.
I have split the two as it allows me to make changes to the team, without affecting the post. It also means you can have some same on the dream team, by discussing it in the comments section. If you put up a valid argument it could pursuade me to change the dream team.
Let me know your views on the new style.
On with the Semi-Final guide.
The fixtures (Teams in bold, are the teams I expect to win):
Germany Vs Turkey
Russia Vs Spain
I spoke last week about how I fancy Russia to go on and win the competition. I am sticking with my instincts.
I am expecting an easy game for Germany, Turkey have many players out injured or suspended, and I think they are out of luck. Germany could cruise to a 3-0 victory.
Russia Vs Spain will be a much closer game. I expect a few goals and will predict a 3-2 win for Russia.
Arshavin has looked good in the last two Russia games, I think he could be in the Premier League next season also. Villa is also good shout for goals this week.
Who are your picks for the week.
Euro 2008 Gameweek Guide Qtr Final
June 19, 2008
We are now left with only 8 teams, It is your chance to take advantage of the other players that have not removed the elimiated players from their teams.
So here are the fixtures for the Qtr finals, the teams in bold are the teams I think will win.
Portugal Vs Germany
Croatia Vs Turkey
Netherlands Vs Russia
Spain Vs Italy
In my opinion I am expecting a Germany Vs Italy Final.
Portugal Vs Germany is going to be a game that I would recommend not choosing defenders from, unless they are more attack minded, as it could see a few goals in this game.
Croatia should have enough to overcome Turkey, but it is not going to be an easy game, Turkey have some good strikers, who could pull a result out of the bag.
I have been watching Russia very closely in this tournament, I signalled them out as outsiders at an early stage, Greece won the tournament last year, and were not one of the fancied teams. They have sorted out the problems from the Spain game and are very organised, and great at counter attacking, they have the potential to cause a massive upset.
Italy started slowly but they are gathering momentum, their solid defence should see them past Spain, who are very poorly organised at the back.
My dream team for this gameweek looks like this:
GK: Buffon (Italy)
DF: Pepe (Portugal)
DF: Pranjic (Croatia)
DF: Panucci (Italy)
DF: Anyukovv (Russia)
MD: Arda Turan (Turkey)
MD: Modric (Croatia)
MD: De Rossi (Italy)
MD: Ballack (Germany)
ST: Pavlyuchenko (Russia)
ST: Gomez (Germany)
Feel free to argue any of my choices below.
Fantasy Euro 2008 Gameweek Guide 3
June 14, 2008
The European Championships are going great. Some great games so far, and some rubbish ones as well. The best team so far has to be Netherlands, who have pulled out 2 great results and look like the team to beat in the 2nd half of the draw, as for the first half of the draw Portugal seem to be plaing well. Does that mean we will have a Portugal Vs Netherlands Final? I dont think so…
We have now reached the final group games, this is where alot is decided. To all of you that have been trying to watch every game, this is where it gets difficult as both group games will now be played at the same time.
Here are the fixtures for the gameweek, along with the team I think will win in bold.
Switzerland Vs Portugal
Turkey Vs Czech Republic
Austria Vs Germany
Poland Vs Croatia
France Vs Italy
Netherlands Vs Romania
Greece Vs Spain
Russia Vs Sweden
One warning that I will give out now is that some teams (Portugal, Croatia, Spain, Netherlands) have gained qualification through the group already, so may field weakened teams in their last games.
As for my dream team, I have picked a team that I think will do well, but as I mentioned above, some players may not play and it is impossible to know this far in advance. With that in mind I have pick the dream team using my own opinions, I urge you to make your own opinions on who will play in the final games.
My dream team:
GK: Lehmann (Germany)
DF: Pepe (Portugal)
DF: Pranjic (Croatia)
DF: Ramos (Spain)
DF: Ujfalusi (Czech Republic)
MD: Nani (Portugal)
MD: Snieder (Netherlands)
MD: Modric (Croatia)
MD: Silva (Spain)
ST: Podolski (Germany)
ST: Van Persie (Netherlands)
Hope this helps. Comments below!
